Who we Are

Transitional Characters is therapy for the curse breakers — for people who know that healing isn’t just about the self. It’s about shifting entire lineages.

We’re a collective of decolonial therapists grounded in liberation psychology — a practice born from Latin America that recognizes the deep connection between personal pain and systemic oppression. Our founder, Liana Maneese, an Afro-Latina American mother and transracial (no not like Rachel…) adoptee from Brazil, brings decades of experience in antiracism, art, and communal healing to this work.

Our clinicians are formally trained, yes — but we know the limits of academic institutions, and let’s be real, mental healthcare is the work of living differently. We believe that true healing happens through direct experience, deep relationship, and truth-telling.

We work with people who want to live with intention, challenge harmful systems, and reconnect to what matters most: community, purpose, justice, and joy.

We don’t hide behind neutrality.

We don’t co-opt the language of liberation while upholding the systems that cause harm.

We practice what we teach — restorative care, accountability, and courageous connection.

We know that therapy can be a powerful tool for transformation — but only if it reflects the reality of the world we live in.

If you’re ready to reclaim your story, interrupt generational cycles, and build a freer future — we’re here.

Let’s get free.

Onward,

The Transitional Characters Team
