Celebrating 1 Year of
Liberatory Mental Health at
Transitional
Characters
1 year of building What
our communitiy needed:
A mental health practice rooted in Liberation.
A Space Where therapy is accessible, not transactional.
A Space Where care isn’t conditional on paperwork, privilege, or polished insurance plans.
We’re calling this an Open Practice—a radical commitment to practicing what we preach.

But please remember, especially in these times of group-think and the right-on chorus, that no person is your friend (or kin) who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow and be perceived as fully blossomed as you were intended. — Alice Walker, In Search of Our Mothers' Gardens: Womanist Prose (1983)

The Therapy Justice Fund:
-
The Therapy Justice Fund helps cover therapy for those who need it most.
It’s mutual aid, not charity.
Community care, not capitalism. -
We serve a diverse and often marginalized population—artists, people of the global majority/BIPOC, mothers, children, seniors, individuals on medical assistance, formerly incarcerated individuals, and others who struggle to access quality mental health care due to financial barriers.
-
Your Gift Supports:
• Sliding scale and free therapy sessions
• Mental health care for those excluded by the system
• Clinicians who deserve to be paid equitably regardless of the client’s insurance.
• The future of liberatory, decolonial mental health care
-
In a world where so much feels broken, and is —this is one way to build something.
If you’ve been frustrated by the healthcare system…
If you’ve been looking for a way to actually help, not just hope…
If you believe care should be a right, not a luxury…
This fund is one of the most direct ways to invest in healing, dignity, and real alternatives. All why we continue to fight for a different system all together.

What We Mean by Accessible Therapy:
Accessible therapy isn’t just a sliding scale.
It’s a full system of support designed to meet people where they are—in income, identity, and lived experience.
But here’s the truth…
Therapy is expensive, and insurance doesn’t make it any easier.
Why We Need
Therapy Justice:
🌀 Reimbursement rates are low.
🌀 Clinicians wait months to be paid.
🌀 Clients get ghosted by their plans or denied altogether.
🌀 Sliding scale sounds generous, but it’s not sustainable.
Most therapists aren’t CEOs or doctors—we’re community workers and social workers, and we don’t make big money.
When we lower our rates, we carry the cost— and we can’t keep doing that alone.
It shouldn’t be this hard to give or receive essential care..
So being the risk takers that we are, we built an internal system that makes it a little easier, but it only works when we see everyone as part of our community:
